2011-2013 Collaborative Partner Programs

Here are the local programs that we are funding for the 2011-2013 Funding Cycle to help meet our goals in the areas of education, income, and health.

EDUCATION

Our intended EDUCATION outcomes and Partner Programs:

1. Children enter kindergarten developmentally ready to succeed, socially & cognitively.
  Programs:
Kindergarten Readiness
Heart of the Valley YMCA
 

The YMCA’s Child Care Division is dedicated to providing quality, licensed child care in Madison County to families who can least help themselves. Provided is an age appropriate environment for children ages 6 weeks to 5 years.
2. Children & youth are safe and secure, and have responsible, caring adults in their lives.
  Programs:
The Caring House
Hospice Family Care

The Caring House provides loving support in a safe environment where bereaved children, teens and their families grieving the death of a loved one can share their experience as they move through the mourning process.
   
Families and Schools Together (F.A.S.T)
Family Services Center

The Families and Schools Together Program brings groups of families together once a week for 8 weeks to share family meals, improve communication skills within and between families, teach positive parenting skills, encourage parental educational involvement, provide educational enrichment opportunities for children and youth, decrease social isolation and increase family support systems. The program has been in place in several Title I Huntsville Elementary Schools and targets families with children ages 5-11 who are experiencing behavioral/social difficulties in the classroom and those whose families have expressed a need for a greater social support system.
   
Leadership for a Lifetime
Girl Scouts of North-Central Alabama

The Leadership for a Lifetime Program is designed to develop and nurture leadership skills in at-risk girls ages 5 – 17 in the Madison County area. Individual programs focus on areas such as financial literacy, science, technology, engineering, math and healthy living. All activities within the program are designed to help girls lead with courage, confidence, and character to make the world a better place.
   
Village of Promise   

To address the needs of children and families in high poverty neighborhoods from birth to college, supporting current successful programs and implementing new initiatives that improve the educational outcomes for children and eventually transform neighborhoods.
3. Students succeed in school.
  Programs:
Center Based Learning
Girls, Incorporated of Huntsville

Girls, Incorporated of Huntsville’s Center Based Learning Program is designed to work with girls in the Madison County area in grades K-8 to enhance school performance. Participants are provided homework assistance, mentors where necessary, and are exposed to enrichment activities including robotics, financial literacy, health and nutrition.
   
Enhanced School Based Mentoring
Big Brothers/Big Sisters of North Alabama

The Enhanced School Based Mentoring Program provides individualized time and attention to at-risk children and youth with screened volunteers at the child's school. Volunteers and children meet regularly during the school year at the school using available resources to enhance and encourage the child's personal and educational growth. During breaks, they may exchange letters, emails, text messages or phone calls, as well as attend agency-sponsored events. 
   
After School Program
Harris Home for Children

The After School Program provides therapeutic and educational services to Madison County children in the foster care systems that are referred to Harris Home for Children. The program provides supervised study hours, individual and group counseling sessions aimed at conflict resolution and self esteem issues, grade report monitoring and transportation to field trips during school breaks.
   
Project Learn
Boys & Girls Club of North Alabama

Project Learn provides various activities designed to help children ages 5-18 succeed in school. These activities are intended to be fun, informative, and to help produce a well-rounded individual. Students participate in a mandatory homework hour, Goals for Graduation, computer/technology literacy activities, A's Equal Dollars and Career Exploration.
INCOME

Our intended INCOME outcomes and Partner Programs:

1. Individuals and families know and access the resources in the community.
  Programs:
Service to Armed Forces (S.A.F.)
American Red Cross

The Service to Armed Forces Program ensures that all active duty service members (all Armed Forces branches) and their families have 24/7 world-wide access to reliable emergency communications and case work services during times of personal crisis. This service is the only authorized line of emergency communication accepted by the armed forces between active service members and their families in the event of a verifiable family emergency.
   
Single Family Fire/Disaster Relief
American Red Cross

The Single Family Fire/ Disaster Relief program is a 24/7, 365 days-a-year, readiness and response to the scene of home fires. Volunteer Disaster Action Teams respond within two hours of notification to immediately meet the basic, emergency disaster-caused needs of any individual or family who experiences a home fire.
2. Individuals and families are economically self-sufficient.

Stepping Stones to Independance
The ARC of Madison County

The Stepping Stones to Independence program serves adult individuals with disabilities in the Madison County area by providing employment opportunities in a safe environment. 
   
Operation Believe, Project Pride,
Live & Learn, House 2 Home
Christmas Charities Year Round

Operation Believe is the Christmas assistance program that provides toys and food for the holidays to needy families. Project Pride provides new and gently used clothes and shoes primarily to children but also to adults and work release inmates in need of work attire. House 2 Home provides furniture, household items and appliances to
families with children, seniors or those suffering from a crisis such as fire. Live and Learn offers financial literacy training to all clients including lessons in budgeting and monitoring/controlling spending habits.
   
Caring Cars Job Transportation Program
Family Services Center

The Caring Cars Program provides vehicles to low-income families in Madison County for job transportation. Donated vehicles are repaired and made available by low cost loans, or at no charge, to families that cannot access conventional loans or otherwise obtain a vehicle. The program alleviates hardship by facilitating parents' ability to work and by providing education in life skills.  
   
Phoenix Programs
Phoenix Industries

Phoenix Programs are designed to accomplish the mission of improving the lives of the people they serve. The primary focus is on assisting and enabling individuals to reach their personal vocational potential and goals. 
   
Alabama Non-Violent Offenders Organization   

To assist non-violent offenders that have a felony or misdemeanor, who are in good standing in our community and state, to get their voting rights reinstated, records pardoned and expunged, job placements, education, and supportive housing. 
3. Individuals are financially literate.
  Programs:
Financial Literacy Training & Counseling
Family Services Center

The Financial Literacy Training & Counseling program provides group training plus individual counseling in Financial Literacy including budgeting, money & credit
management, asset development, predatory lending avoidance and retirement saving. These efforts include involvement in foreclosure mitigation and homelessness prevention. Funding also supports adjunct services such as rental counseling, affordable homeownership programs and free income tax filing. All services are provided at no charge to all Madison County residents particularly low-income individuals and families.
4. Individuals and families have access to emergency and/or transitional housing.
  Programs:
Emergency Financial Assistance
Catholic Center of Concern

The Emergency Financial Assistance program seeks to address some of the financial hardships and basic needs of families and individuals living at or below the national poverty level in the Madison County area. Methods of achieving this include but are not limited to counseling, budget management, advocacy and referrals to other community service resources where necessary.  
   
Living In Family Transitional Housing (L.I.F.T.)
Family Services Center

The Living in Family Transitional Housing program provides termed affordable and transitional housing and supportive social services to low-income, at-risk homeless families with dependent children residing within the household; more specifically those that have expressed the desire to become productive members of their community by setting goals and working diligently toward self-sufficiency and economic independence. For approximately no longer than 18 months, families receive intensive case management and life skills training that equip them to transition into permanent housing with no federal subsidy.
   
Extended Stay Shelter
The Salvation Army

The Extended Stay Shelter program provides shelter to the homeless in and around the Huntsville and Madison County areas. Some individuals simply need a meal and a bed over night, others need a place to stay for an extended amount of time so as to find work and permanent housing. Individuals may stay for up to three months with three meals daily and access to beds, showers, laundry, clothing and GED classes if necessary.
HEALTH

Our intended HEALTH outcomes and Partner Programs:

1. Youth & children have healthy habits and live a healthy lifestyle.
  Programs:
Domestic Violence
Crisis Services Center of North Alabama

The Domestic Violence program serves adult and child victims of domestic violence who live in fear and have no safe place to go. Victims receive help filing PFAs (Protection from Abuse Orders), collecting forensic evidence and securing emergency shelter.
   
Couseling Program
Family Services Center

The Counseling Program provides quality family support programs and professional counseling to all residents of north Alabama and south central Tennessee. Additionally, it provides quality mental health services from professional therapist for little or no charge to low income individuals and families.
   
Child Abuse Intervention
National Children's Advocacy Center

The Child Abuse Intervention program provides specialized intervention to youth victims of sexual and/or physical abuse at no cost to the family. Services include medical examinations for victims, family advocacy for care-givers of victims, and evidence-based mental health services for victims. Services are provided from initial outcry of abuse by the victim to the progression towards emotional healing. The services are made available to any Madison County child age 18 and younger. 
   
Pathfinder
The Pathfinder, Inc.

The Pathfinder Incorporated is a 90-day program which provides services, such as food and shelter, case management, individual substance abuse counseling, group counseling, transportation, drug screening, 24/7 access to staff and assistance with independent living skills provided in a safe and structured environment to address physical and emotional needs.

Healthy Children
HEALS, Inc.

The Healthy Children Program brings school-based health clinics to the Huntsville and Madison County area. Currently there are three pediatric medical clinics with an additional one in progress. The program seeks to reach children at Title I schools in medically underserved areas with easily accessible quality health care.
   
Healthy Families North Alabama
National Children's Advocacy Center

Healthy Families works to protect Madison County’s youngest and most vulnerable individuals, children ages birth to five, who are least able to help themselves. By providing support and home visitation services to parents, Healthy Families increases the health and safety of children resulting in a healthy start and positive outcomes for the child and family. This program is available to first-time parents residing in Madison County who are Medicaid eligible.
   
Foster Children's Alliance (FOCAL) 

To enhance the quality of life for children in foster care in Madison County, and to assist foster children and families with resources to meet the many needs of children that cannot be obtained in other ways. 
3. Children, youth, and adults have good dental care.
  Programs:

HEALS, Inc
.

The Bright Smiles Program brings school-based health clinics to the Huntsville and Madison County area, including a comprehensive pediatric dental clinic. The program seeks to reach children at Title I schools in medically underserved areas with easily accessible quality dental care.
4. Youth and adults avoid risky behavior.
  Programs:
HELPline
Crisis Services of North Alabama

The HELPline is a 24-hour crisis line providing telephone crisis counseling toward the goal of helping any individual choose safe options and avoid risky behaviors when faced with life problems. Counselors assess callers to determine suicide risk and when necessary connect them with relevant emergency services.
   
Stop Child Abuse and Neglect (S.C.A.N.)
National Children's Advocacy Center

The Stop Child Abuse and Neglect program prevents child abuse and promotes healthy behavior in Madison County by implementing school-based curricula over two days with a third of activities conducted by teachers and counselors. In a non-threatening manner, trained staff and volunteers equip children, through interactive discussion, role play, and experiential learning techniques, with an understanding of what the various forms of abuse and neglect are (focusing on sexual abuse), how to react if they feel threatened and who to turn to for help. 
5. Seniors remain healthy & in their homes.
  Programs:
Aging in Place
CASA (Care Assurance System
for the Aging and Homebound
)

Aging in Place provides direct services, groceries or other basic essentials to the elderly and homebound individuals. This includes but is not limited to providing transportation to doctor’s appointments, delivering groceries, installing grab bars or handrails in the home or building wheelchair ramps. Care management helps assess the physical, emotional, and health needs of the clients with the assistance of a nurse and social worker.
